Support for IEC 60870 gives global markets more IIoT options
ROCKVILLE, MD (August 10, 2020) – Machfu, a leader in industrial internet of things solutions, has expanded its suite of supported protocols on its signature internationally-certified Industrial IoT Gateway to include IEC 60870, the company announced today. Combined with the recently released add-on global connectivity module, the new innovation developed under a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the U.S. Department of Energy enables Machfu’s solutions to be sold in utilities markets anywhere in the world.
“Machfu Solutions are widely adopted by utility customers in North America and internationally. With its existing DNP3 to Modbus protocol translation capabilities, data can be transmitted between a utility asset in the field and a SCADA backend system,” said Vinod Mukkamala, Director of Platform Engineering, Machfu. “Electric utilities around the world can now create their own custom applications using the Machfu Software Development Kit (SDK) and exercise IEC 60870 protocol translation capabilities using the Machfu Gateway as a convenient, low-cost option.”
Machfu received another SBIR grant in September 2019. The $1 million grant has enabled Machfu to securely connect electric grid assets and bring them to a common information model. The Machfu Gateway connects to substation devices and distribution assets and now covers all devices that speak the DNP3, Modbus, and IEC 60870 protocols.
